Dr Joe Walker
Joe Walker works within the Water Use and Reuse research group, which is part of the Urban Water and Reuse resaearch theme. Joe received his BSc (1st Hons) from Queens University Belfast in 1964, and his PhD in quantitative ecology from Queens and Imperial College in 1967. Dr Walker joined CSIRO in 1967, working on semi-arid woodland dynamics and woody weeds. His research interests since then have focused on land system surveys, vegetation classification, vegetation dynamics, fire and fuel dynamics, vegetation succession, impacts of disturbance on ecosystems, remote sensing and competition theory. His current research work is in assessing and monitoring catchment health, impacts of tree planting to improve land degradation, competition theory, application of fuzzy set theory to model salinity risk in catchments and developing means to incorporate community collected environmental data into catchment management planning and state of the environment reporting. |
