Dr Syed Mahtab Ali is a Research Scientist in the Groundwater Hydrology research group of the Hydrology research program, and in the Water for a Healthy Country flagship project "Perth Water Systems".
He has applied advanced integrated hydrological modelling in assessing the impact of climate change and engineering interventions on land and water resources.
Current Research
- Surface and groundwater interaction with and without engineering interventions
- Impact of climate change on groundwater with and without drainage
- Modelling vegetation response by using integrated modelling to estimate its impact on stream flows and groundwater
- Impact of land use changes on the water balance at catchment scale
Research Interests
- Integrated hydrological modelling at catchment scale
- Impact of over irrigation on groundwater
- Role of surface water management in dryland salinity
- Climate change impact on land and water resources
- Vegetation-groundwater and surface water interactions
- Impact of engineering interventions on catchment water balance
- Interactions between vegetation, soil, water and salt
Qualifications
- 2007 PhD - Climate change and water management impacts on land and water resources, Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia
- 1992 MPhil (Water Resource Management) Centre of Excellence in Water Resources, University of Technology, Lahore, Pakistan
- 1989 MSc Eng - Farmers' allocation of irrigation water under prevailing conditions, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan
- 1986 BSc Eng - University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan
