Jan Skjemstad is part of the Environmental Flows and Ecology research group which is part of the Catchment and Aquatic Systems research program.

Jan Skjemstad joined the Division in 1965 and received his B. Appl. Sc. in 1971 and M. Appl. Sc. in 1984 from Queensland Institute of Technology.

His research interests are in spectroscopy, principally infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance, and in the varied mechanisms which protect soil organic matter from decomposition.
