Anu Kumar works within the Trace Organics and Risk Assessment research group, which is part of the Environmental Biogeochemistry research program.

Current Research/Research Interests

  • Assessment of pesticide impacts on the biological health of the aquatic ecosystems;
  • Impacts of winery wastewater on the ecosystem health;
  • Toxicity Identification and Evaluation (TIE) of effluents/stormwater;
  • Application of biomarkers for screening and monitoring contaminants;
  • Bioavailability of sediment-bound pesticides;
  • Evaluation of mixture toxicity; and
  • Impacts of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs).

Research Capabilities

Dr Anu Kumar conducts research in the area of ecotoxicology and possesses the following research capabilities:

  • Ecotoxicological assessment of organic and inorganic contaminants,
  • effluents, leachates and receiving waters;
  • Use of cladocerans, freshwater shrimps, yabbies, rainbowfish, native frogs for freshwater testing;
  • Use of polychaete worm, mulloway and oysters for marine testing;
  • Sediment toxicity assessment;
  • In situ biomonitoring; and
  • In vitro screening test for endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs).
