2003 – Water on the World Agenda

The United Nations has proclaimed 2003 as the International Year of Freshwater.

World Day for Water was also celebrated on 22 March 2003, with its theme ‘Water for the Future’ calling on all to observe sustainable approaches to water use for the benefit of future generations.

With drought, dust storms and bushfires sounding a wake-up call about the real value of water in this dry continent, Australians have a special interest in the messages advocated by World Water Day and the International Year of Freshwater.
