Project Team Members

Dr Keith Bristow is Project Leader with overall responsibility for the project and interactions with the NAIF Steering Committee. Keith is also responsible for the science conducted within the project and works with each of the project team members in meeting project objectives

Mr Jeff Camkin is the NAIF Sustainability Specialist with lead responsibility for developing, testing, and applying the sustainability framework. Jeff is also responsible for managing the stakeholder reference group and broader stakeholder engagement, project monitoring and reporting

Dr Cuan Petheram is a hydrologist working on improving understanding of the hydrogeological settings, groundwater systems, and surface water – groundwater interactions in northern Australia

Dr Freeman Cook is an applied mathematician/physicist working on understanding what (if any) benefits irrigation mosaics (smaller patches of irrigation distributed spatially within the landscape) can deliver in a northern Australia context

Dr Matthew Lenahan is a geochemist working on improving current understandings on hydrogeochmical processes in dry tropical catchment areas and the impacts of irrigated agriculture on groundwater chemistry.

Mr Justin Story is a Research Assistant currently assisting Jeff Camkin

Ms Lucy Reading is a PhD student working on Understanding tropical groundwater systems in the Lower Burdekin

Ms Peta Dzidic is a PhD student working on Lessons from the North and the South: New Strategies for Improved Decision Making in Irrigation and Land Management

Mr Steve Marchant is a PhD student working on Decision-making on Irrigation Development Proposals: New ways to make better decisions

Ms Di Popham is a Project Officer whose role includes establishing and maintaining processes to support collaboration between project partners and stakeholders across Australia; co-ordinating project communications, and supporting the NAIF Steering Committee and Stakeholder Reference Group.

Past Project Team Members

Mr Bart Kellett has recently completed his three year studentship with CSIRO and the CRC IF and the research he undertook during this time was on improving understanding of risk and resilience as part of the sustainability framework and its application to determining the future of irrigation in northern Australia.  Bart is in the process of completion and submission of his thesis on this research.

Project Team Awards

Members of the NAIF Project Team have received the following Awards in recognition of their strong commitment and persistence in engaging with stakeholders.  This effort has enabled the integration of science, policy, management and community in the development of knowledge, tools and processes to assist in decision making regarding the future of water resources in northern Australia.

  • 2008 CRC IF Leadership & Excellence Award - presented to Keith Bristow & Jeff Camkin at the 2008 CRC IF Annual Research Forum
