Finfish Project Hailed a Success
Success has been achieved for the landmark experiments within the Finfish & Nutrient Management Project conducted by DPI Bribie Island Fisheries. The pilot study, in conjunction with the South Burdekin Water Board, has been assessing the capacity of several native fish to consume aquatic plants and thus rid Burdekin waterways of unhealthy nutrients and weeds.
Experiments have shown that water tanks containing mullet remain free of water weeds and nutrients, whilst other tanks without fish habitat recorded high levels of algae blooms and weeds.

This research will help maintain good quality waterways by providing a sustainable biological method of clearing weeds.
