Synthesis papers
Chairs of sessions will write synthesis papers by 15 September 2011. Synthesis papers will summarise the discussion which follows each session.
The managing editors will then send the papers for review, and authors are expected to revise in response to review.
The publication will then be available on a public website by the end of 2011.

Paper submission
All papers for the WIRADA Science Symposium must be submitted via this website by completing the online submission form and attaching the file as a MS Word 2003 .doc file as per the layout guidelines below and instructions in the template itself.
- Download the Paper template (Word, 87 kb).
- Complete the session paper by 15 June 2011 as per the instructions in layout guidelines below and the template itself.
Hint: if you are copying from a different file, ensure that you 'Match Destination Formatting' when pasting.
- Rename the file as ‘Lastname_Firstname_Paper.doc’ (e.g. ‘Smith_John_Paper.doc’).
- Upload the document using the online submission form. The file will be attached in the final field of the online form.
Deadline
The deadline for submitting synthesis papers is 15 September 2011.
Layout
Papers will appear exactly in the form submitted by the author, and it is the responsibility of the author to ensure accuracy of content, spelling and presentation.
For this reason, it is imperative to use and carefully follow the guidelines here and in the paper template.
Papers must meet the following criteria:
- Language: English
- Topic: see Program to guide the content
- Margins: A4 page
- Top: 4 cm
- Bottom: 2.5 cm
- Left: 3 cm
- Right: 3 cm
- Title and abstract:
- Layout: follow guidelines at Abstracts and in template itself
- Changes: The abstract that authors provide in papers will supercede the abstract provided on 31 March 2011. While minor changes are acceptable, please do not alter the abstract substantively in the paper.
- Font: Arial (except for title). Essential elements include:
- Authors: 10 point, bold, left-justified
- Affiliation(s): 9 point, italic, left-justified
- Abstract and keywords: 10 point, fully justified, with left and right margins indented 10 mm
- Headings: 10 point, all capitalised, bold, left-justified, numbered
- Sub-headings: 10 point, sentence case, bold, left-justified, numbered
- Main text: 10 point, fully justified
- Captions: 9 point, centred, bolded label ‘Figure 1:’
- Figures and/or tables: permitted, if the author wishes, subject to compliance with total length guidelines
- Figure/table numbering: Figure 1, 2, 3, … and Table 1, 2, 3, …
- Captions: with a full stop at the end, for both full sentences and fragments
