What is Wireless Soil Moisture Monitoring?

CSIRO Land and Water Wireless Soil Moisture Monitoring uses a combination of short-range radio communication and the mobile phone network to automatically deliver soil moisture measurements from the paddock to the desktop.

Wireless microloggers, with low power requirements and able to be buried next to the soil moisture sensors, log the data and transmit it up to 3 km to a receiver. Using the mobile phone network, the receiver then relays data collected from all the microloggers within range to a web server, making it immediately available.
